Pen to paper, illustration comprises much more than a few doodles on a page. Different types of illustration have different effects and are, therefore, dependent on the desired outcome. We’re just going to run through five types of illustration
- Character Illustration
This type of illustration involves the creation of a character, so to speak. Attention to detail is the name of the game.
- Storyboard Art
A storyboard is a graphic organiser in the form of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualising a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or interactive media sequence.
- Vector Illustration
Vector art is created using vector illustration software programs, such as Adobe Illustrator. These programs use mathematic/geometric equations (ie: points, lines, and shapes) to create art that is clean, camera ready, and can be scaled infinitely.
- Scene Illustration
Scene illustration is based on the use of the scenery around us – either this scenery can be the focal point of an illustration, or can be used to create the surroundings for a specific character.
- Animation
Animation involves the technique of successive drawings or positions of puppets or models to create an illusion of movement when the film is shown as a sequence.
